The Chishawasha Orphanage Project
We met Kathe Padilla in 2003 and she told us of her plans to move the orphanage from a very small rental property in Lusaka (15 children) to a facility she hoped to build on an acreage just outside of the city. The plans called for it to ultimately be large enough to provide shelter for up to 100 children.
Her first priority was to secure a reliable source of clean dependable water and as a result of the water well we drilled for her in 2004 she was able to raise sufficient funds to build two residences and put up a temporary school.
Since then we have built four additional residences for the children.
And in 2004 we had the grand opening of the six classroom school block we built for them.
The school will not only provide the orphanage children with a primary school education but will also look after the children from the neighboring village. These children will be provided with the clothes they require as well as two very much needed meals per day.
Because the number of orphans living at Chishawasha is growing and there is an increasing number of children coming from the village the school needed to be expanded and in 2008 The Glassco Foundation completed building the second and third school blocks and a second water supply
